Their website has hundreds of volunteer opportunities. So if you would like to be a volunteer, this is a great place to start. And they are constantly looking for new opportunities to post

Their mission is to connect people with public sector volunteer opportunities to help Build America's Communities of Service. Volunteer.Gov/Gov is a partnership among the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, State of New York Division of Veterans Affairs, the Corporation for National and Community Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and U.S.A. Freedom Corps aimed at providing a single, easy-to-use web portal with information about volunteer opportunities.

The Volunteers.gov/gov Search Database

This search tool located directly on the site's homepage, allows you to search for volunteer opportunities by keyword, state, activity, partner, and/or date range. Opportunities include veteran healthcare and natural resource opportunities as well as public sector positions in New York. The first step is to apply for a position that interests you. Once you are selected for a position you and the project supervisor will sign a volunteer service agreement that describes the work, the time commitment and relevant factors such as training, equipment, accommodation, and health and safety.
